Research Title: Unlocking Value from Waste: Recovering Metals from Produced Water

Research Story: My research explores a sustainable method to recover valuable metals from produced water, a byproduct of oil and gas extraction, through carbon mineralization. This process captures carbon dioxide (CO2) while extracting useful metals like rare earth elements. By carefully controlling the process, we can recover these metals efficiently and reduce CO2 emissions at the same time. This approach not only transforms industrial waste into critical resources but also contributes to climate change mitigation. It’s a win-win for the environment and the economy, showcasing how science can transform waste into opportunity!
