Research Title: Characterizing the Effect of CO2 Mineralization in Ultramafic and Mafic Rocks
Research Story: Carbon capture and storage (CCS) is an effective way to reduce the industrial carbon footprint. Mafic and Ultramafic rocks in the US Mid-Atlantic region have shown promise for CCS, particularly in terms of mineralization. However, assessing their properties for large-scale projects is essential. My research focuses on studying the petrophysical and mechanical properties of these rocks, using technologies like XRD, MCT, SEM-EDS, and BTS. Under the guidance of Dr. Pandy Rohit, we aim to assess their suitability for large-scale carbon storage and lay the groundwork for future projects.
What are your career aspirations after completing your degree?
I aim to work in the energy and energy systems management field. In particular, I hope my work can contribute to energy policy formulation especially in CCUS. I aim at also using my knowledge and skills gained to champion field scale energy projects in Ghana and across Africa.
