Research Title: Mineral Resource Estimation Techniques

Research Story: My research focuses on improving the accuracy of mineral resource estimates. By enhancing the efficiency of exploration and assessment processes, I aim to provide more precise evaluations. To achieve this, I will compare innovative methods, such as machine learning, with traditional techniques to demonstrate the potential benefits of modern approaches in resource estimation. These improvements are crucial for better understanding the size and quality of mineral deposits, reducing unnecessary drilling costs, and protecting the environment. Accurate estimates also support economic decision-making for investors and stakeholders and support long-term planning for sustainable resource management.

Why did you choose the Mining and Minerals Engineering Department at Virginia Tech?

I chose Virginia Tech’s Department of Mining and Minerals Engineering because I am particularly eager to work with Dr. Westman, whose expertise in advanced resource modeling aligns with my research interests and career goals.
