Clifton Morris
Clifton "Clif" Morris is a native of Grottoes, Virginia, where he was raised by a turkey farmer and elementary school teacher. After graduating from the Virginia Tech Department of Mining and Minerals Engineering in 2003, he went to work as a management trainee at Florida Rock Industries in Havre de Grace, Maryland, and eventually was promoted to pit manager.
He went on to work at Luck Stone in Manakin-Sabot, Virginia, as a plant foreman, and then on to Tilcon New Jersey as plant manager at Mt. Hope Quarry. At Tilcon, he worked in several leadership positions, including general manager of engineering and support services and vice president of sales. Then he transitioned to a position as senior vice president with The Shelly Company in Ohio.
Today he is president of Tilcon New York Inc., and the company has benefitted from his connection to mining engineering at Virginia Tech. Three of the department's alums have been hired there as plant managers, and one is the area manager for New Jersey.
Morris serves on a handful of boards and committees, including the workforce development board for Sussex, Morris, and Warren Counties; the Associated Construction Contractors of New Jersey; and the New Jersey Asphalt and Pavement Association.
He and his wife, Denise — also a Hokie alum — have three daughters: Brooke, 13; Audrey, 11; and Ellie, 9.
