Critical Minerals
Critical minerals are those deemed essential for modern technology but are also at an elevated risk for supply chain disruptions. To help build robust and sustainable supply chains for critical minerals, the department is currently conducting research on:
- Assessment and characterization of critical mineral resources
- Process technology development for conventional and unconventional resources
- Techno-economic analysis and life cycle assessment
- Evaluation of environmental justice, workforce development, and infrastructure needs
- Pilot scale technology testing
